Tiny Thought for the Day: Comparisons

This morning I read one of what seems like a thousand arguments, comparing diets (vegetarian vs. Keto). This was after I saw flamethrowing parties regarding whether The Orville was better than Strange New Worlds, whose boyfriend was nastier in the breakups being discussed, and whose Tiktok videos (dance vs. funny cats) were more worthwhile.

Equally useless comparisons are when you look at someone else with either far better (or far worse) situations than yours, and you look at yourself wondering why they are more/better/clearer than you are.

Stop, please.

Comparisons are invidious…unjust. Remember that you planned your life with certain lessons, certain advantages that your soul felt would be the best way for you to grow. When you see a video or read a story of someone who sounds like they are in far worse shape than you are, yet they are cheerful, thoughtful, kind, wise…don’t use it to beat yourself up because you aren’t all that.

A chocolate meringue doesn’t envy a pepperoni pizza, and a Yorkie doesn’t look at a horse and beat itself up for not running as fast or being as big, even though it has four legs just like that other animal.

You have no idea what your random kindness will mean to a total stranger. Equally, you have no idea what the challenges and lessons you set for yourself this time will do for the person you will become later in this life — or in the next.
