Mediums Aren’t Dial-a-Dead

Recently, I got an email from a client, very distraught:

It’s been a year or so since my parents died in that car accident, remember? Well, I went to a medium on vacation because I wanted to talk to them. My friend said she was a medium with a good reputation, and lots of the locals go to her.

But she couldn’t connect with them at all! She even told me that she wouldn’t take my money and couldn’t read me.

She was polite and everything, but I couldn’t help feeling that something was wrong with me. Why won’t my parents talk to me when other people get their people on the Other Side? I’m so sad and confused.

I get this question more often than you’d think, and it’s always asked with grief and bewilderment. What could the client have done that their loved ones have turned their backs?

That’s when, with complete compassion, I reassure my client that it’s NOT THEM.

Sometimes those on the Other Side don’t come through and it’s nobody’s fault.

It doesn’t mean they don’t love you. And it doesn’t necessarily mean that the medium isn’t good (especially if they’ve done readings for other people who were able to report that the medium made contact with those they’ve lost).

It simply means the connection wasn’t there at the time.

Here’s a good analogy:

You sit down at a computer.

It’s a good computer, and you’re clear on the operating system and all the installations.

You want to get on the internet, but it just isn’t happening!

Now, does that mean you’re at fault? No, it doesn’t. You know how these things work. You’re competent, and that hasn’t changed.

Does it mean the computer isn’t any good? Not necessarily; if every other function is working, all the wiring is sound, and it’s plugged in — then it’s not the computer.

IT’S THE CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET THAT’S OFFLINE.

With mediumship, the idea is essentially the same. The connection, for whatever reason, may not always be there on a given day.

Remember: our loved ones don’t “sit by the heavenly phone” waiting for it to ring, or for a chance to talk to you. And it’s not because they don’t love you, or care about you.

When we cross over, we get to do marvelous things on the Other Side: resting, learning, expanding, perhaps being spirit guides for other folks on the Earth plane, or helping to shepherd other souls as they make the Crossing.

Yes, your folks on the Other Side can be spirit guides for others! I had one client whose father, a decorated veteran of World War II, made it his business to help soldiers who were killed in the Middle Eastern conflicts make their transition peacefully and without fear.

It’s also possible your loved one could be planning their next incarnation.

If you have felt them around you (as this client did), then you can trust that they still love you and are deliberately sending you that knowledge and comfort.

But just as our Earthbound friends can be out doing things when we call, our loved ones can be just as happily busy Upstairs.

Leave a message on their answering machine by sending them love, perhaps spending a few minutes in prayer wishing them well.

They will always get THAT message.
