Do Spirit Guides Ever Abandon Us?

I had to handle a three-alarm spiritual crisis for a tearful client recently. “A psychic at a psychic fair told me that my Spirit Guides weren’t around because they were confused as to how they could help me,” she sobbed. “So they just abandoned me until they could figure out how to guide me. What did I to do drive them away?”
Spirit Guides are one of the most blessed and important parts of our incarnational toolbox. In my understanding, gained from a half-century of metaphysical work — as well as discussing the subject with other psychics I honor and trust — I can tell you absolutely:
Your Guides are always there. They never go AWOL.
This doesn’t mean they’ll always have answers for you via divination sessions. Sometimes, because they know that growth and spiritual understanding is the #1 goal for any incarnation, they will sit things out and not give us any specific guidance. Why? Occasionally the most valuable part of a life lesson is figuring out how to get the answer we seek, rather than the answer itself.
However, our Spirit Guides are ALWAYS there on the sidelines: loving us, cheering us on, and giving us strength and courage. To know the difference between using them for guidance or as crutches — that’s the trick.
There are times when all of us depend on them a little too much — more than is good for us (notice Corbie’s little corvid wing raised here; she’s not been exempt from that bit of learning!). That’s when our Guides wait for us to access our own Inner Knowing.
They know we have our own answers in there; we just need to do a little digging to unearth them.
So let’s say that you’ve been practicing, and you are sure that you are getting correct messages from your Guides. What happens when all of a sudden you stop “getting heavenly mail?” Does it mean you’ve done something wrong, or that they have simply up and left?
Absolutely not. It could be that there are other things (stress, work, a different life-focus) that are putting your celestial connections on the back burner.
Maybe you’re doing so well on your own that your Guides feel you don’t need the Upstairs nudge.
Or it could be that your ability to access this is so good now that you don’t even realize when it happens!
Whatever the reason, relax and enjoy the flow — knowing you will get the information you need by whatever method your personal Guides and Angels deem most efficient.
My own take on this incident is not that the client’s guides “could not figure out how to guide [her].” They likely saw several different and valid paths available at that Life crossroad.
Rather than limit her choices, they wanted her to move forward and discover what was most important to her at this time. “Abandonment” and “confusion” are limiting, human concepts.
Spirit Guides (whether angels, ETs, discarnates, energy beings, or any other entity that might want to be part of your Upstairs Team) are anything BUT human or limited. Even those discarnate-but-once-in-form human souls who are guides for us have a larger viewpoint, once the body is shed.
So, with respect, I disagree with the conclusion of this psychic-fair psychic. I think she was correct in that the client’s guides may not have had answers at that time and, therefore, she was unable to receive anything.
When such things happen with my clients, I ask them to please trust — please know — that those celestial seats are filled, as always, and the Upstairs Phone Line is still connected. But the call, at this time, simply is not appropriate.
And, whether or not you hear from them, your Spirit Guides are always sending you courage, strength, resilience and humor — because they want you to walk your Path with joy. They wish for you an open mind, open hands, and an open heart that can all help you grasp your Life Lessons and mine them for the riches they contain.
